The Pilkington Activ™ glass range combines both self-cleaning and solar control properties, making them highly desirable amongst homeowners. It has an extensive range of benefits including saving time, energy and money as well as the ability to achieve thermal insulation, solar and noise control.

Pilkington Activ™ glass is mainly used on glass roofs with the addition of reflective glass to reduce solar gain.

The reflective glass comes in many different shades and colours to cater for customers preferred tint, and the solar rejection that is required. This is generally aspect determined (for example Southerly aspect high reflective value, Northerly aspect lower reflective value).

The History of Pilkington Activ™ Glass 

In 1959, Sir Alastair Pilkington developed the “float glass process” to make flat glass that fundamentally changed the way high-quality flat glass was made, which opened the door for its wider use.

Since then continued research has allowed Pilkington to add extra functionality to float glass, offering endless possibilities such as the invention of the World’s first self-cleaning glass – Pilkington Activ™.

Pilkington Activ™ has been independently verified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films (IST) in Germany. It is believed to be the first dual-action product to meet the new European Standard [EN 1096-5 and EN 1096-2] for self-cleaning glass.

This latest achievement is testament to the strength and quality of the Pilkington Activ™ Range.
